Long-awaited new information about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which was reportedly "indefinitely delayed" late last year, is beginning to leak, but it may not be the news PC gamers wanted to hear.
According to the latest rumors, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will launch in April and offer 12GB of VRAM.
The news comes from Twitter's @kopite7kimi, who has a long track record when it comes to leaking reliable hardware information. But of course, this information should still be taken with a healthy pinch of salt.
The leaker previously claimed that the card would offer 20GB of VRAM in December 2020. However, that information was incorrect, or perhaps Nvidia has changed course, perhaps deciding to prioritize lower price points over graphics performance.
The amount of VRAM does not seem to be the only aspect that the RTX 3080 Ti may have been downgraded; according to kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi), the graphics card may have 10,240 CUDA cores, while earlier reports suggested 10,496 cores.
The news has been met with mixed reactions on social media, with gamers not thrilled at the possibility of a downgrade of the high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080.
Differentiating the RTX 3080 Ti from the more expensive Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 may be the reason for this potential downgrade. However, it is worth noting that the RTX 3090 is targeted at professional creators, while the RTX 3080 Ti is the flagship GPU for PC gamers.
This information is corroborated by VideoCardz, whose website also claims that the graphics card will be released in April. However, this date has not yet been confirmed, and the website stresses that the release date is subject to change.
Speculation about the RTX 3080 Ti has been flying around for some time now, and hopefully Nvidia won't keep us waiting any longer for official details.
