According to Microsoft, the shortage of Xbox Series X inventory will continue "at least through June," and finding a place to buy one is not likely to be easy for some time.
Mike Spencer, Microsoft's head of investor relations, broke the news in an interview with The New York Times, along with the fact that the company sold all the Xbox units it had last quarter. As a result, there will not be a large inventory of Xbox Series X units available until the summer.
Microsoft previously addressed this issue when its CFO, Amy Hood, confirmed that future sales of the next-generation consoles are likely to be "still supply constrained" until the end of this quarter: Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. AMD, which manufactures both the CPUs and GPUs for the consoles, is also experiencing chip shortages, as this situation is expected to continue until mid-year
.
Unfortunately, getting one of Microsoft's next-generation consoles is difficult enough as it is. Since the console hit shelves in November, thousands of duffers (and bots) have continued to try to get their hands on a new Xbox console as soon as new inventory becomes available.
Of course, the Coronavirus outbreak has not made this situation any easier, and with so many people stuck at home in various blockades trying to figure out where to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X, it is no wonder that every online retailer is selling out within minutes of restocking.
It's not entirely clear if things will improve over the summer, but if you're eager to get your hands on an Xbox Series X, follow your favorite stock-checking Twitter account for restocking updates.
