Many new products are announced each year at CES, and CES 2021 is no exception. In the year since I started working from home and teaching my children remotely, computer monitors have become more than an accessory to my desktop computer, they have become more and more a window to the world.

Well, this week's product announcements were more than window dressing, with companies unveiling new monitors in the monitor category that are sharper, higher resolution, and more convenient. From ultra-fast gaming monitors to monitors that sit between desktop displays and full-fledged TVs, not to mention displays tailored for home office living, we've rounded up the most exciting monitor announcements at CES 2021.

Acer's coolest announcement of the year is undoubtedly the Acer Nitro XV282K KV. This 28-inch monitor boasts 4K resolution (3840 x 2160), an IPS panel for rich colors and wide viewing angles, and a 144Hz refresh rate, not to mention a wide color gamut with 90% DCI-P3 coverage. AMD FreeSync and HDMI 2.1 connectivity allow gaming PC to the latest gaming consoles, providing smooth, tear-free gaming. It will be available this May for $899.99.

Acer announced three new gaming monitors this week, adding two new Acer Predator monitors and the slightly more affordable Acer Nitro.

Asus has announced four new gaming displays, two professional monitors, and a portable USB-C monitor for 2021. However, our favorite may be the Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ.

Gaming monitors are nothing new, but the ROG Strix XG43UQ, with its massive 43-inch screen, falls somewhere between a gaming monitor and a TV, offering one of the largest screens for a monitor. This massive monitor offers 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, HDMI 2.1 connectivity, and a fast 144Hz refresh rate; with VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification and 90% DCI-P3 coverage, it should look great.

Pricing details for this beast are still unknown, but it should be available this spring.

Bigger is not better, but it is certainly an eye-catching monitor. Dell's biggest monitor announcement is the Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor (U4021QW), one of the largest monitors you can get for a home office. With a whopping 5120 x 2160 resolution, it offers the same 140 PPI pixel density as a 32-inch 4K screen, but stretched out for a 33% wider display.

The Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor has a 2,500 radius curve that keeps every inch of screen at the same viewing distance, and Dell offers 98% DCI-P3 coverage and 100% of the Adobe sRGB color space, a pre-calibrated The company touts its color accuracy and wide color gamut.

It is also packed with features such as Thunderbolt 3, which can power the laptop with up to 90 watts of power, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, USB-A and C ports, built-in speakers, and much more. Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Monitor (U4021QW) will be available starting January 28 for $2,099.99.

The HP E27UG4 offers an excellent home office solution thanks to its USB-C connectivity, allowing users to connect a PC, charge a laptop, and connect devices via the built-in 4-port USB hub, all with a single USB-C cable. This 4-port hub is equipped with a USB 3.2 gen 1 port rated at 5 Gbps, and the monitor is configured with additional connections such as DisplayPort 1.2 outputs and inputs so that multiple monitors can be daisy-chained together in a setup.

The display's QHD (2560x1440) resolution should provide enough detail for office work, and HP's Eye Ease technology, a blue light filter, removes much of the blue light that can cause eye strain on regular monitors.

The HP E27u G4 hit store shelves this February for $339. HP also has a 24-inch model with full HD resolution, the HP E24u G4, which sells for $219.

Lenovo has a pair of monitors, the Lenovo L24i-30 and Lenovo L27E-30, with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and some nifty design elements. One small innovation that caught our eye is the built-in smartphone holder on the bottom. This is simply a groove in the material of the stand, and you can stand your smartphone up against it, but it's the kind of device that improves the home office by allowing easy access to important devices (and the information feeds they carry).

Both monitors feature IPS panels with wide viewing angles, blue light filtering, and anti-glare coating for improved visibility and all-day comfort. The monitors support AMD FreeSync and have a refresh rate of up to 75 hz.

Both monitors will be available in March: the 23.8-inch Lenovo L24i-30 monitor starts at $159.99 and the 27-inch Lenovo L27e-30 monitor at $189.99.

The LG UltraFine OLED Pro 32EP950 was introduced, featuring LG's superior OLED panel, this monitor is made for creators and takes advantage of OLED's incredible contrast capabilities.

The 32-inch OLED monitor boasts 4K (3840x2160) resolution and 99% coverage of both DCI-P3 and Adobe SRGB color gamuts. Combined with the panel's 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, it should be quite gorgeous and suitable for LG's target professional audience.

There are also plenty of connectivity options, including two DisplayPort connections, a USB-C input that provides 90 watts of power for charging devices, one HDMI input, and a three-port USB hub. It does not have built-in speakers, but it does have a 3.5mm audio jack to support external speakers.

LG has not announced a price for this model and has not yet determined when it will be available in stores.

Viewsonic's hottest announcement at the show is undoubtedly the Viewsonic Elite XG320U gaming monitor. This 32-inch gaming monitor lives up to its Elite name with a sleek three-sided borderless design, single-cable connectivity via HDMI 2.1, and a host of features that gamers will love. [This monitor boasts 4K resolution (3840x2160) and 144Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for ultra-smooth gaming, VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, and 99% coverage of Adobe sRGB color space. HDMI 2 .1 support includes Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM), a particularly useful feature for console gamers who want to get an edge over their TV-connected competitors.

But PC gamers will also love this monitor, not only for its high refresh rate, but also for its speedy 1ms pixel response time and Viewsonic's Pure XP luminance reduction technology that keeps even fast movements clear.

The Viewsonic Elite XG320U will be available in the first quarter of 2021. Pricing has not yet been announced.
