With massive restocking of the PS5 scheduled for the US, UK, and Ireland this week, Sony expects to ship 14 million units of the new console this year.
At least, this seems to be the case according to PS5 Stock Central on Twitter, which regularly sends out PS5 restocking information. As expected, GameStop and Best Buy held PS5 restocking events earlier in the week. (Both stores are sold out.) It is unclear if more PS5 stock will arrive today, but it never hurts to be prepared.
After the PS5 was released on November 12, inventory around the world sold out quickly, leaving PlayStation fans with a major challenge: where to buy a PS5. Later, when the PS5 was restocked for the 2020 holiday season, buyers with a tiger's eye on the PS5 appeared, but inventory levels were generally limited, and the PS5 quickly ran out of stock again.
The situation was not helped by duffers who used bots to find new PS5 inventory the moment it arrived. The bots end up buying as many consoles as possible and selling them at enormously inflated prices. Some retailers have prevented this by limiting PS5 orders to one per person, but that still does not stop the duffers from trying to get as many PS5s as they can.
With almost two months having passed since the launch of the PS5, one would expect Sony to have started manufacturing more consoles at a faster pace, and with the PS5's ambitious annual shipment figure of several million units, one would assume that Sony is ramping up manufacturing, but no official announcement on this There has been no official announcement on this.
Microsoft is in a similar situation as Sony, with the Xbox Series X out of stock at every retail store we checked. However, Microsoft has appealed to AMD to help bring more Xbox Series X consoles to market.
Thus, it appears that both Sony and Microsoft are preparing to launch more new game consoles this year. With Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, and Fable 4, 2021 is shaping up to be a big year for next-generation gaming.
