Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post Thursday (Jan. 7) that President Donald Trump has been banned indefinitely from both Facebook and Instagram following Wednesday's attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

"The last 24 hours have clearly demonstrated that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining term of office to ruin a peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden," Zuckerberg's post said.

Zuckerberg further stated that the company will extend its previous block on Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts "indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until a peaceful transition of power is completed."

Twitter placed a 12-hour suspension on Trump's accounts beginning Wednesday evening in response to the Capitol Hill riots, but resumed service by Thursday morning.

The social media platform's decision to temporarily block Trump's account came after a video message from the president that asked rioters to leave the Capitol peacefully but did little to condemn their actions.

According to Twitter, in order for Trump to deactivate his account, he would have to delete three tweets that Twitter noted were "a serious violation of the Civic Integrity Policy."

Twitter further said it would permanently ban Trump's account if he continued to break the site's rules.

YouTube also removed the president's videos.

President Trump continues to claim without proof that the 2020 presidential election was rigged and that victory was stolen from him. He has cajoled his supporters into not accepting the results, and yesterday's video exacerbated, rather than dropped, the fraud narrative.

The president's supporters have gradually migrated to other social media platforms, including Parlor, the platform on which The New York Times reported that the attack on Capitol Hill was orchestrated.
