Wonder Woman 1984 is pretty bad — and so is the glitch

As "Wonder Woman 1984" continues to underperform at the domestic box office in the U.S. and Canada, many viewers are reporting problems streaming the film on HBO Max.

In addition to the film being quite long (151 minutes) and questionable plot choices, a significant number of HBO Max users, especially those using Roku streaming devices, have reported problems watching the film.

Twitter users like BuzzFeed's Brandon Wall took to social media to complain about "choppy frame rates" and "video stuttering":

According to ANTENNA, HBO Max's post-launch signups, about 11%, came three days after WW1984's release.

Since its release at the end of 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 has disappointed fans of its predecessor. Officially released on Christmas Day in both theaters and on HBO Max, it proved to be far from a pleasant holiday surprise, grossing just $16.7M in its opening weekend in North America. The following weekend, box office fell to just $5.5M, down 67%.

The score on Rotten Tomatoes also took a huge tumble from 89% to 60% in a matter of days as critics and viewers began to slam the sequel as a "tasteless story" and "a litany of unimaginable clichés":

WW1984 took place decades after the previous film (in 1984, for one) events. Diana Prince, portrayed by Gal Gadot, is living undercover as an anthropologist, grieving her late boyfriend Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

But after she and colleague Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) discover a mysterious artifact called the Dreamstone, Wonder Woman must protect it from Maxwell Lord, a talented and aspiring businessman who seeks to benefit from the stone's power She is forced to leave.
