Even as the calendar moves to 2021, PS5 consoles remain like gold dust and are bought up almost the moment new inventory appears. Therefore, the chances of simply being lucky enough to get one are pretty slim, and it would be helpful to know exactly when they will be restocked.
According to one source, a "huge" third wave of PS5 consoles is coming this week in the U.K. PS5Instant (a Twitter account that uses bots to track PS5 arrivals and stock-outs in the U.K.) will be available on Thursday, January 7 and Tuesday, January 12, "most retail stores," claiming that there should be a third shipment to "most retailers" on Thursday, January 7 and Tuesday, January 12. It is unclear whether these dates match the plans of U.S. retailers.
That said, the usual suspects of Amazon, Currys, and Game all suggest that they are getting units to ship, but are checking a couple names of broadband and phone networks as accounts get stocked: BT and EE are.
However, it appears that the option to buy from these carriers may only be open to those with existing contracts.
Otherwise, the account mentions that the Asda could ship as late as today, but this is not predicted with much confidence. Wherever you buy from, the account is optimistic that this is an adequate shipment and should assure that determined buyers get one soon. In one tweet, the account wrote: "The next drop is huge and anyone who really wants one will get one."
Of course, these claims are unverifiable, but if you're on the hunt for a PS5, it wouldn't hurt to set a reminder to check inventory on January 7. Since its launch on November 19, the PS5 has been extremely difficult to get in the UK, and those who haven't pre-ordered had to be really lucky. Some of those who did pre-order were disappointed for reasons that still remain unexplained, as Amazon's shipments were replaced with boxes of toys and cat food.
The good news for those who haven't gotten a PS5 so far is that they aren't missing out on that much at this point in the console's life cycle. Personally, one of the greatest joys of being an early adopter is playing old-school co-op games with my girlfriends using backwards compatibility and my recently retired PS4.
