Cyberpunk 2077 Free DLC Confirmed — What You Need to Know

Cyberpunk 2077 will receive some free DLC in early 2021 as developer/publisher CD Projekt Red tries to overcome a disastrous launch.

While bugs, poor console performance, refund offers and denials, and even a class action lawsuit have taken the shine off Cyberpunk 2077's strong sales performance, a new DLC page on the game's official website indicates that CDPR is moving forward with additional content plans.

Details are scarce, with the page's only message that "free DLC will begin hitting Night City in early 2021," and its only other call to arms is "stay tuned." Still, we can confirm the plan that was announced in a hidden message within the launch trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, namely that the game will follow a DLC model similar to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with a mix of free and premium DLC packs. According to the message, the first of this free content will indeed launch early next year.

The Witcher 3 free DLC included a small but varied drop of armor sets, new animations, alternative character skins, and a few smaller quests. So if Cyberpunk 2077 follows this template, we can expect more of the same, with larger story-based expansions coming later.

That's all well and good, but any DLC would have to share development time with the numerous major patches planned to fix the game's myriad bugs and performance issues. One of these, version 1.06, was released last week, with various fixes for memory crashes, character loss, and a save file size limit of 8 MB, which hinders the progress of players who are dedicated to the game.

Two more major patches are planned for January and February, respectively.
