It's time to watch "Wonder Woman 1984" online on HBO Max. This superhero sequel begins streaming today for subscribers and will be shown in theaters in the U.S. Even a pandemic can't keep Diana Prince down! And it looks like HBO Max and Roku have finally decided to strike a deal.
"Wonder Woman 1984" has been in the works almost from the moment the 2017 blockbuster opened to $821.8 million at the worldwide box office. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot quickly signed on to reunite.
"Wonder Woman 1984" is set during the Cold War. Diana Prince has not aged a day since her superheroics in World War I, but society has changed dramatically. New conflicts arise in the form of two new villains: media businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and his friend-turned-enemy Barbara Ann Minerva, aka Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Diana receives unexpected assistance from her love interest Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who presumably died in the first film.
"Wonder Woman 1984" has had a long and winding road to HBO Max, Warner Media's newly launched streaming service; the COVID-19 pandemic forced Warner Bros. to postpone the release date several times. Then, in mid-November, Warner Bros. announced that it would distribute the film to its sibling company, HBO's streaming service, simultaneously with its release in U.S. theaters. The move came as quite a surprise to Hollywood, but paved the way for Warner Bros.' decision to release the entire 2021 film on HBO Max.
