Leaks of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro continue, with a report from 91mobiles citing regular leaker Ishan Agarwal, who claims that the true wireless earbuds will feature dual drivers, IPX7 water resistance, and up to 28 hours of battery life It claims to feature.
Agarwal's information also corroborates Galaxy Buds Pro specs and features revealed in previous leaks, including active noise cancellation (ANC) and AirPods Pro-style 3D spatial audio capabilities.
Perhaps the most interesting detail in this leak is the Galaxy Buds Pro's possible dual speaker design, combining an 11mm bass driver and a 6.5mm tweeter in each earpiece. This could be good news for sound quality, since most in-ear headphones use only a single dynamic driver to save space and weight. However, separate drivers may be better suited to reproduce both ends of the frequency range.
IPX7-compliant water resistance is another big advantage for Samsung headphones. Previous generations of products, including the recent Galaxy Buds Live, did not have IP-grade waterproofing, let alone full waterproofing. Therefore, the Galaxy Buds Pro may be safer to use while exercising or out in the rain; the AirPods Pro is water and sweat resistant, but not fully waterproof, which may give the Galaxy Buds Pro an edge.
The report also details the battery life of the Galaxy Buds Pro at 28 hours total, including multiple charges to fully drain the charging case. This exceeds the Galaxy Buds Live with ANC rating by 6 hours, and the Galaxy Buds Pro also exceeds the AirPods Pro's 24-hour stamina.
At the end of the 91mobiles report, it is suggested that the Galaxy Buds Pro will be priced at €229 (about $279, not accounting for regional tax differences). As such, we would take this with more salt than the specs detailed above.
That said, with credible talk of a significant upgrade in feature set, we would not be surprised if the Galaxy Buds Pro really is much more expensive than previous models. The Bose QuietComfort EarBuds, currently ranked #4 on the Best Wireless Earphones list, are $279.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is expected to be unveiled along with the Samsung Galaxy S21 at the Samsung Unpacked event on January 14, so we will know for sure in what may just be a few weeks We will know for sure in what may be just a few weeks.
