Amazon UK customers have complained on both Twitter and Reddit that their PS5 orders are often received with other items ranging from foot massagers to rice.
In some cases, it appears that delivery drivers may be stealing PS5 units from customers; Amazon acknowledged the problem in a statement to Eurogamer.
"We are committed to making our customers happy, but with a small percentage of these orders that is not happening," an Amazon spokesperson told Eurogamer. 'We are really sorry about that and are investigating exactly what happened. We are reaching out to all customers who have had problems and let us know so we can fix it. If you have any problems with your order, please contact our customer service team"
.
According to Eurogamer, which spoke to affected individuals, so far Amazon's customer service has asked customers to wait 48 hours before a formal complaint can move forward; some have been offered a £5 gift card; others have been offered a £5 gift card; others have been offered a £5 gift card.
On Reddit, several users have reported instances of delivery drivers stopping outside their homes, marking the package as delivered, and driving away. According to these threads, Amazon customer support suggests that users submit footage of the incident to local police and file a damage report.
Unfortunately, finding another unit will be difficult for users who received a George Foreman grill instead of a PS5. Unless Amazon assures these users that they will be able to get a PS5 during the next wave of shipments, it will be difficult to find another unit given the demand.
Another Twitter user who was patiently waiting for his PS5 noticed a van pull up and drive off to a house a block away. He packed up with the driver only to discover that the QR code had been damaged and the box had been opened.
Will Judd, a senior staff writer at Digital Foundry, also encountered a strange case. His PS5 was taken to his neighbor's house, even though he was home. His neighbor agreed with the courier to take the box instead of Judd, but the courier left with the PS5.
While the majority of Amazon customers received their PS5s, the duplicity of some delivery drivers is problematic, especially during a pandemic when people are starving for entertainment and staying home.
