As the debut of the PS5 approaches, Sony is introducing a few more games for the new console, which will be released on November 12. The latest is "Demon's Souls," a complete top-down remake by Bluepoint Games and SEE Worldwide Studios. And it has much excitement for those who are about to purchase a PS5.
Gavin Moore, SIE Worldwide Studios' creative director of external development, took to the PlayStation Blog to detail what it was like to work on a "legendary and beloved title" like "Demon's Souls" and to share some of his thoughts on the project, In addition, a new gameplay trailer was released.
In the latest trailer, players will go to the Kingdom of Borletaria, where the grim land of Stonefang awaits. Stonefang is just one of five different realms that can be traversed in the remake, filled with cursed miners who continue to dig for dragon bones from the ancient land. Stonefang remains lit by the forge of the arcane weapon and the lava that drives it.
Sword, shield, and wits are the only means against the spirits that await in this wretched underworld. To thwart the giant spiders and their friends, one must learn important techniques while exploring the caves.
The developers of Demon's Souls say that large-scale battles with beasts such as armored spiders and flamelarkers feel just like the original PlayStation 3 version. According to the team, they have "lovingly recreated" these battles to give players the same feeling they experienced back in 2009.
Although not explicitly stated in the blog, much of this precision and attempt to bring the game closer to what it felt like when it debuted will depend on what the PS5 can recreate: with the PS5's dual-sense controller, players will be able to hear swords and feel the sound of their tired bodies. They will be able to feel every stroke of the sword and every blow. Given that the tactile feel and feedback of the controller is so advanced that you can feel the tension of pulling a bowstring, it is likely that such tricks will be available here as well.
Speaking to Polygon, Moore elaborated a bit more on how playing with dual senses changes combat and brings a new feel: "You can really feel metal on metal through the controller. Having the audio, visual, and tactile trinity working simultaneously makes a huge difference in gameplay. When you parry, you feel it with your hands before you see it visually, and that split-second reaction time gives you that little edge you need. You are feeling the world of the game."
Moore also noted that "everything that was in the original PlayStation 3 version" is included in this version of Demon's Souls, so there is nothing that players will miss. Besides that, this version will include new weapons, rings, and armor.
