PS5 will give a big boost to God of War — Here's how

The PS5 may not have the best launch game lineup of any PlayStation console, but it does appear to improve the performance of some of the PS4's best games, especially "God of War."

Developer Santa Monica Studio tweeted that "God of War" will run at up to 60 frames per second when using the "Favor Performance" mode on PS5. As a little bonus, you can also transfer save data from PS4 to PS5.

Released in 2018, "God of War" impressed not only us but everyone with its story, combat, and worldview, as well as its stunning graphics. Even when run on the base PS4, the game looked amazing, especially so on HDR TVs. However, it only ran at 30 fps on the base PS4, with occasional frame rate drops.

On the PS4 Pro, the frame rate was unlocked by the performance mode and ran a bit smoother, but the experience was never smooth; the PS5, with its 10.28 teraflops of graphics power, will eliminate this problem and will be able to maintain 60fps at all times, and It seems likely.

One might wonder why the PS5 can't run "God of War" at 120 fps, something the PS4 Pro could not achieve, but the PS5 will likely run at native 4K resolution.

Furthermore, due to differences in core hardware architecture between PS4 and PS5, "God of War" may not be able to take advantage of the full power of the PS5, despite being a game for older consoles. We have previously heard that the PS5's increased power could overwhelm PS4 games, forcing them to be artificially slowed down in backwards compatibility mode.

However, "God of War" at a smooth 60fps is rather appealing, especially if you can play it from where you left off last time, perhaps to take on the tricky Valkyrie boss. This is especially true of "Bloodborne," From Software's flagship title, which, other than the long load times and frame rate drops, has done wonderfully.

The PS Plus collection will likely offer a set of PS4 games optimized for the PS5, but this will require a subscription. Hopefully, backwards compatibility will be extended to PS5, providing an Xbox Series X-like experience.
