Forget Ps5: Nvidia RTX3090 Shows Off Stunning 8K Games

The PS5, and the Xbox Series X, may be able to run some games at a whopping 8K resolution, but the real 8K gaming powerhouse seems to be the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090.

At least in a video posted by YouTuber Bang4BuckPC Gamer, a variety of games are running at the maximum resolution of 8K on Nvidia's most powerful enthusiast-grade graphics card, the RTX 3090.

And while the results are impressive, they also show just how taxing it can be to run games at 8K.

Take The Witcher 3 for example, a five-year-old game that is still one of the most visually stunning titles, and running it at full settings is quite taxing. Even with the graphics settings set to Ultra, a machine with an RTX 3090 and a powerful AMD Ryzen 3950X processor could not achieve 60 frames per second at 8K.

However, it ran at 30 fps or better most of the time and looked great; it's hard to tell from the YouTube video, but the textures in The Witcher 3 at 8K are very crisp, with details seemingly extracted from every environment.

The same can be said for Horizon Zero Dawn running at 8K. The game was designed for the PS4 hardware, but at very high settings, it is quite demanding on a powerful PC. Where once there was aliasing on the PS4, none of it is present in 8K, and everything looks very crisp and clear.

Clever Nvidia techniques like Deep Learning Supersampling (DLSS) do not appear to be applied. Therefore, it is possible that such a game could run at a faster frame rate.

Nevertheless, these videos show how much power the GeForce RTX 3090 has to tackle such extreme resolutions when many people are still gaming at 1080p or 1440p. And what is promising here is that it shows that 4K gaming, once thought to be impractical, is now within reach of consumer-grade gaming hardware. 8K, on the other hand, remains a new frontier that high-end PCs may begin to explore.

Thus, it is an exciting time for gaming fans, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon; the AMD Big Navi and Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards are scheduled to debut on October 28, giving Nvidia's new cards will provide exciting competition.
