The rumored successor to the Chromecast Ultra appears to be imminent, with more teases in the Android 11 developer preview. [9to5Google has examined the Android 11 for Android TV preview files and found a video showcasing the upcoming media dongle, codenamed Sabrina. Apparently, the Chromecast Ultra successor will be part of the Made By Google series and will be Google's first Android TV device since the Nexus Player, the magazine reports.
The video released does not discuss much about the Sabrina dongle's specs or features. Rather, it only details the reset process, which involves disconnecting the streaming device's power connection for three seconds.
However, the video does show, to some extent, that the device looks like the previously leaked Sabrina marketing materials. It will sport an oval shape with the 'G' logo stamped on it, making it look a bit like a smooth stone you might find on the beach. And as seen in the leaked images, it will likely come in white, black, and soft pink-orange.
From what we know so far, the Sabrina Chromecast will come with a clean remote control with a circular navigation dial and a simple set of buttons, clearly in line with the simple utilitarian aesthetic seen on the Pixel 4 and others. Apple TV. similar remote with a touch-sensitive circular panel, but expect Google's remote to recognize smoother number input than the Apple TV's.
We assume that Sabrina will support 4K resolution and work well with Google Stadia and other streaming services. But so far, not much else is known about it.
The fact that Sabrina is mentioned in the Android 11 developer preview suggests that the new Chromecast device could be released at the same time as the full launch of Google's new operating system. Android 11 is expected in August or expected to appear in early September. However, it could also be released with the Pixel 5, which is currently expected to arrive in October.
