Samsung's Galaxy Buds X, a bean-shaped, fitness-focused wireless earphone, will actually be called Galaxy Buds Live, according to exclusive reports, and will debut next month.
News of the Buds' official name came from SamMobile, the site behind several recent Samsung leaks. According to the report, the Galaxy Buds Live and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 will launch together in July, followed by a rumored August Unpacked event.
SamMobile also said that when the Galaxy Buds Live becomes available, it will be offered for free or at a discounted price as part of a pre-order promotion for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2.
The Galaxy Buds Live is expected to cost less than $150, which is rather affordable compared to branded pairs from Apple (including Beats by Dre), Google, and Sony.
While we are skeptical that active noise cancellation will be offered at that price point, the alleged bundle option is certainly appealing. [And if Buds Live delivers on the rumored fitness features and improves on the sound quality shortcomings we described in our review of Samsung's Galaxy Buds Plus, we could be just weeks away from the debut of the best wireless earbuds of the year.
It is not unusual for Samsung to announce a wearable device before an Unpacked event. Last summer, they announced the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 a few days before the Galaxy Note 10 keynote, and this summer's Note 20 event is reportedly scheduled for August 5, so we may see Galaxy Buds Live on the last day of July Galaxy Buds Live may be seen on the last day of July.
