More evidence that Amazon's Prime Day is moving to September. According to a new report, Amazon is planning a "summer sale" and letting brands "sell excess inventory,"
the New York Times reports.
The coronavirus outbreak has severely impacted Amazon's operations. The unprecedented surge in sales forced the company to focus only on essential products, temporarily shutting down services like Amazon Pantry and suspending Amazon delivery services.
During the pandemic, Amazon's sales surged, but the company fell behind its competitors during this period. Prior to the pandemic, Amazon accounted for 42% of domestic online consumption. By mid-April, however, the figure had dropped to 34%. Amazon even removed the "Deal of the Day" section from its website to reduce sales and demand. (It has only recently reinstated it).
As a result, Amazon's "Summer Sale" is also an attempt to keep the momentum of Prime Day going. Because Prime Day has become such an important event, Amazon's competitors tend to hold Prime Day-like sales in mid-July. Without an official Prime Day, Amazon could find itself further behind its competitors.
So what kind of deals can we expect during the Amazon Summer Sale? This event will be very similar to Prime Day, but will not be branded. Therefore, we could see deals on Amazon hardware, 4K TVs, housewares, kitchenware, etc.
Can't wait until July? Here are the best deals on Amazon right now and the best TV deals.
