Apple's AirPods Pro now has a new, less expensive competitor with active noise-canceling capabilities.
Urbanista London's wireless headphones are similar to the AirPods Pro, featuring silicone ear tips and a protruding stem to house the earphones' microphone. However, they will cost $149 when they debut on May 25, dramatically less than the $249 AirPods Pro.
As reported by TechRadar, the London earbuds will come in a series of color variations, ranging from pearly white and black options to rose gold and navy, which should stand out more than the AirPods Pro.
The biggest feature, however, is active noise cancellation, something not many wireless earbuds offer at this price. Now that the price has been reduced, Sony's WF-1000XM3 is one of the few earbuds that offer active noise cancellation for under $200.
The ambient sound mode allows you to hear the outside world when you want, similar to the AirPods Pro's transparency mode. The London earbuds are also IPX4 waterproof, so you can use them for workouts without worrying about sweat.
Urbanista London's rounded, rectangular case is slightly different in design from the AirPods Pro's case, but it supports wireless charging. As for battery life, Urbanista claims 5 hours of battery life for the earbuds themselves and another 20 hours with the case. The earbuds' case can also be charged via USB-C connection.
Finally, voice control via the connected phone's virtual assistant, such as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, is also supported.
On paper, the Urbanista London earbuds look like a true AirPods Pro competitor. However, to compete with Apple's most expensive headphones, they need to have high audio performance. But at $150, Urbanista London will have to compete with the new Pixel Buds 2 and Galaxy Buds Plus, which have impressed us so far.
The upcoming Galaxy Buds X is also rumored, which also promises active noise cancellation and will be priced around $150.
