Nintendo Switch is getting tons of classic Mario games this year

Nintendo is remastering its 35-year-old Super Mario catalog for the Nintendo Switch, bringing the vast collection of games to Joy-Cons around the world as early as this summer.

According to VGC, a person familiar with Nintendo's plans said that 1997's Super Mario 64, 2002's Super Mario Sunshine, 2007's Super Mario Galaxy, and 2013's Wii U game Super Mario 3D World will be among the games the company will be He said the titles are among those the company plans to re-release for the Switch.

Sources also said the re-releases will be packaged as a special anniversary collection of games and are sure to join the ranks of the best Nintendo Switch games as a total. The collection will reportedly be released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game, which was released in 1985.

As a console of the moment, the Nintendo Switch already has a number of Super Mario games like "Super Mario Maker 2" and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe."

Through Nintendo's $20/month Switch Online service, various classic 2D Mario games from the NES and SNES era can already be played on the Switch. However, fans can expect a significant expansion in the content offered, with more niche titles returning with an optimized look and, in the case of "Super Mario 3D World," new playable content.

Nintendo may have planned to reveal this collection during a special Nintendo Direct presentation in conjunction with E3 2020; now that E3 2020 has been canceled, Nintendo may hold a digital showcase or Mario Direct event in June. The VGC post also mentions that Nintendo plans to release a new installment of its "Paper Mario" role-playing game series this year.

Nintendo has not confirmed any speculation about a re-release, so we will have to wait until summer to find out. In the meantime, check out some of the best SNES games you can play.
