If you haven't heard of mini LED displays, you will soon. According to a new report, Apple plans to launch six products using this cutting-edge technology in 2020 or 2021.
And one of them is the 14-inch MacBook Pro. This news comes from MacRumors and is based on a research note by reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo notes that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 27-inch iMac Pro, 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, new 16-inch MacBook Pro, 10.2-inch iPad, and 7.9-inch iPad will all appear.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the most interesting device of the bunch, as it will be a new size for Apple. Apple's move from the 15-inch MacBook Pro to the 16-inch MacBook Pro is a logical move without increasing the footprint or weight. All they did was shave off the bezel.
Therefore, it is reasonable to expect Apple to trim the fat off the 13-inch MacBook Pro as well and expand the display to 14 inches without bloating the design. We can also assume that Apple will use the same new and improved scissor keyboard on this 14-inch laptop as on the 16-inch model.
Mini LED displays have several advantages over traditional LCD panels. They are designed to provide higher brightness and contrast ratios along with deeper blacks.
Therefore, while mini-LEDs sound similar to OLEDs, mini-LEDs have several advantages over OLED panels as well. Additionally, because mini-LEDs use inorganic gallium nitride, the displays are designed not to degrade over time like OLED screens.
Kuo did not mention a release date for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, but it could be in the fourth quarter of 2020, which analysts have previously predicted as the launch date for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.
