While Sony is still hanging on to its boots, Microsoft is already past the starting line, and as the full specifications of the Xbox Series X are revealed, Microsoft is starting to move away from the console as a fixed concept to a multi-generational brand. Xbox One With the news that all new games will come with a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X, Microsoft is making it more affordable to stay with Xbox and more expensive to move to competitors like Sony and Nintendo.
With the price of the Xbox One S and Xbox One X currently dropping in stores everywhere, it appears that Microsoft is trying to attract generations of first-time gamers who are currently on the second leg of the journey.
Right now, you can get the Xbox One X (the world's most powerful gaming console for another seven months) bundled with Star Wars Jedi: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for just $299 at Best Buy. at Best Buy for only $299. That's a savings of $200 off the regular retail price.

Of course, there seems to be more to the story here: after announcing that the Xbox Series X will be compatible with older titles, Microsoft also heralded the age of "smart delivery". You can also play your existing Xbox One game library on the Series X without modification.
Lowering the price now will encourage people to replace their current consoles and bank on potential future purchases of the Xbox Series X. This is a very smart strategy by Microsoft, as it creates a new multi-generational ecosystem of Xbox gamers.
The question is whether it will work. It all depends on whether the PS5 adopts a similar strategy and enables backwards compatibility. If not, Sony fans may feel more inclined to Microsoft than to buy "Skyrim" for the third time.
