The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is expected to arrive in January. However, the user manual for this upcoming phone is already here.
Leaker Evan Blass posted a link to the Galaxy S21 FE user manual on Twitter. We can download the 167-page document, and it pretty much confirms that the phone will offer the same basic features as the rest of the Galaxy S21 lineup.
More news about the Galaxy S21 FE comes in a follow-up tweet from Blass, in which Blass pastes some specs on top of photos of the front and back of the upcoming handset. Specifically, Blass cites specs for the Galaxy S21 FE's rear camera, which has a 12MP main shooter with an additional 12MP ultra-wide angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens.
This camera specification may disappoint some, as previous rumors had suggested that the S21 FE could offer a 32MP main camera. However, given that the Galaxy S21 FE is a cheaper version of the Galaxy S21 and its flagship has a 12MP main camera, the 32MP sensor rumor may have been wishful thinking.
Blass states that the Galaxy S21 FE will have a 32MB front camera, which would be an upgrade over the 10MP shooter on the regular S21.
The leaked user manual confirms several other Galaxy S21 FE features that suggest this phone will resemble much of the rest of the S21 lineup. For example, the FE has a fingerprint sensor under the display and the screen supports a faster refresh rate. (The manual does not clarify whether the refresh rate is dynamically adjusted or whether the setting must be manually changed, as on the Galaxy S20 FE.
The camera is slightly different on the Galaxy S21 FE (both the regular S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus have 64MP telephoto lenses), but according to the camera feature description in the Galaxy S21 FE user manual, the new phone has Single Take, AR Doodle, etc., and will support the same photo features. (For more information on Samsung's upcoming phone, check out the Galaxy S21 FE unboxing video that appeared online after the Galaxy S21 FE user manual was released.) Samsung Hungary also accidentally leaked a case that will be available for the S21 FE.
However, most of what we know about the Galaxy S21 FE has been brought to us by rumors. Like the rest of the Galaxy S21 lineup, the new phone should run on the Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip, allowing Samsung to cram as much as 8GB of RAM into the phone. Other rumors suggest that it will have a 4,500 mAh battery.
In other words, the Galaxy S21 FE appears to be a scaled-down version of the Galaxy S21. As such, today's leak of the Galaxy S21 FE price is somewhat disappointing. In that leak, the S21 FE is priced at £699 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, which would likely translate to $699. This is only $100 less than the regular S21. We had hoped the S21 FE might be even cheaper this time around.
Final pricing and specs for the new phone will be known soon; the Galaxy S21 FE is expected to debut in January, with one rumor claiming it will go on sale on January 4, a week later. In a previous tweet, Blass supported a January 11 release date for the Galaxy S21 FE.
