Update: New leaked information reveals the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, color, price, and specs all.
After a very problematic lead-in, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is finally expected to launch in January - albeit only in Europe. This may disappoint American readers, but if this new price leak is correct, we can console ourselves that we won't lose too much.
As MySmartPrice discovered, retailer LambdaTek lists European prices for the model with 128GB storage at €877 (~$994) and UK listings at £737 (~$989). 256GB models will cost €940 (~$1,065 dollars) or £790.20 (~$1,060). Similar prices are also listed on Samsung's Irish website.
There is reason to take this with a grain of salt: the price is lower than when MySmartPrice first announced it, suggesting that these figures may not be definitive (the original article put them at €920/€985 and £776/£831). In addition, because of taxes in the UK and Europe, the currency may not be converted directly to give an accurate price.
Nor are these prices Samsung-like suggested retail prices. In the UK, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was launched at £599 (~$804) and the 5G version at £699 (~$938). In that regard, the significant price hike from the $699 S20 FE 5G is hard to ignore, even taking into account the European sales tax. In a word: hmmm.
However, if we take these numbers at face value, it is not hard to imagine that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is anything but a poor seller.
Despite the "Fun Edition" branding, the FE line is a slightly inferior version of the original product, available at a much more attractive price. The same is expected before the Galaxy S21 FE, in that it will use the same design as it's flagship sibling, but will likely sport plastic and have less on-board storage or RAM.
With the S21 FE expected to launch just a month before the Samsung Galaxy S22, the value of the original Galaxy S21 will have dropped considerably. two months ahead, the Amazon relaunch model is already available for £535.50 and the Galaxy S22 As it gets bigger, this price will only go down; the idea that anyone would pay more than £200 more for a Galaxy S21 FE just before the S22 arrives seems ridiculous to me.
So take this price list with a grain of salt. And if you're reading this in the US, remember that there are plenty of excellent alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE for those who want great performance on a smaller budget.
