While the iPhone 13 may be getting the most attention right now, there are plenty of other Apple products rumored to be coming today, or at least soon. iPad mini 6 is one such product, and it appears that some of its specs have been leaked online.
The information comes from leaker Majin Bu, who posted what he claims are full specs and images of the iPad mini 6. If accurate, it reveals a lot of details about the rumored new tablet - the key word here is "if accurate."
According to Majin Bu, the iPad mini 6 will be released this November and will feature significant upgrades. These include an 8.6-inch display, USB-C connectivity, and Apple Pencil 2 support. Like many of the best iPads, it will also reportedly include Touch ID, Smart Connector, and will be available in 64GB or 256GB storage configurations.
Unfortunately, Bu claims that the tablet will only feature the A14 Bionic chipset; the A14 is not inferior by any means, and its inclusion in an entry-level iPad should not be a big surprise, but if this information is accurate, the iPad mini 6 is not that powerful.
The images shared by Bu (we stress that they have not been confirmed as authentic) show off a device that looks quite different from what we have become accustomed to. For starters, the volume controls have been moved to the top of the tablet, and the left side of the device appears to be reserved for charging the Apple Pencil.
The previously rumored full-screen display suggests that the iPad mini 6 will follow the iPad Air with a Touch ID sensor inside the power button. At least, that may be the case if these images are genuine.
As for colors, this information suggests that the iPad mini 6 will come in the usual colors: lime, space gray, silver, rose gold, and green and sky blue. Pricing will reportedly start at $399 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and $679 for the 256GB cellular model.
As we have noted, these rumors are unverified, so we do not know how accurate the information is. For example, given the rumors that several new iPads will be launched along with the MacBook Pro 14-inch 2021 and MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 in the "coming weeks," a November launch may be a possibility, but we cannot yet be completely certain.
The Majin Boo information has also come under fire from other Twitter users, including concept artist Ian Zerbo, who is known for working with many prominent leakers. Zerbo noted that some of the details in Boo's images do not match the CAD files based on his own renderings.
It is hard to know who has the right information, but it is enough to cast doubt on the leak. Basically, nothing is confirmed until Apple executives take the stage and tell us what is going on. Of course, they will do it later today for the iPhone 13 announcement, so we could see the iPad mini 6 soon.
