OnePlus is not only announcing the new, high-end OnePlus Buds Pro, but apparently the second generation of its least expensive earphones.
Very reliable leaker Steve McFly (aka OnLeaks) posted an unofficial rendering of the OnePlus Buds Z2 "based on actual images" according to 91mobiles.
The OnePlus Buds Z is the company's least expensive true wireless earphone, priced at just $49.99 ($59.99 for the attractive but now sold-out cartoon model with art by Stephen Harrington). While they do not offer any great features such as active noise cancellation (ANC), they were generally quite well received, given their price point.
As can be seen from the attached images, little has changed in the second generation in terms of design. The ear tips appear to be slightly angled, but other than that, they are indistinguishable from the originals, right down to the familiar charging case.
While this tip change may be significant, 91mobiles speculates that the angled approach ensures a better fit. The site also notes that the cutouts on each earpiece may indicate sensors for automatic fit detection and some sort of noise isolation.
Judging by the company's track record in the field of true wireless audio, the earbuds may be worth noting. In our recent review of the OnePlus Buds Pro, we described them as "shockingly good for the price," and while we shouldn't expect that level of excellence from a product that is a third of the MSRP, the OnePlus Buds Z2s make our list of "the cheapest wireless earphones you can buy" might be enough.
At the very least, it might make us question whether it's worth spending an extra $30 on regular OnePlus Buds.
91mobiles has heard that these earbuds will be announced next month. It is also in line with the prediction of previous leaker Yogesh Brar when he wrote that OnePlus "is expected to unveil some new accessories at the next launch." It is not the OnePlus 9T that is rumored to be canceled, and Brar instead predicts another member of the Nord line of inexpensive smartphones.
