The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 may only be hours away, but that hasn't stopped the leaks and rumors. Hands-on videos of both models have been circulating online.
The original video has since been deleted, but has been re-uploaded elsewhere, and it appears that some key rumors, such as the camera under the display, may have hit the mark.
As can be seen in the video below, the hands-on models we have seen being handled and used are what appear to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. And it seems likely that both models are Samsung's latest foldables, rather than older models, as they feature several design choices specific to what we were told both models might feature.
It is worth noting here that the person in the video is showing off the Galaxy Z Fold 3's under-display camera. The camera is visible in the upper right corner of the Galaxy Z Fold 3's internal screen, but is not seen actually taking pictures. [The under-display camera is not new; it is also found on the ZTE Axon 20 5G and the just-announced Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. But it is still a rarity, and the fact that Samsung is supposedly adding it to its next flagship is a big deal. However, according to rumors, the lens has a 4MP sensor, and given what we've seen so far, we shouldn't expect more than "acceptable" photos.
Beyond that, if it is indeed legit, the video really only shows the basics. We can see the Galaxy Z Flip 3's supposedly larger cover display, the Galaxy Z Fold 3's new triple-lens main camera array, and lots of folding and rotating. That said, we've seen foldable phones before, so it's not that exciting.
Unfortunately, the video does not show off the Galaxy Z Fold 3's biggest upgrade, S Pen compatibility. Samsung has already confirmed that the phone will support a stylus of some sort, but we need to see it in action to be sure it can replace the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Especially since the flexible glass used in the Z Fold series is more fragile than that used in the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Galaxy Unpacked is not just about foldable devices. Samsung also plans to unveil the rumored Galaxy Buds 2 with active noise cancellation and the Galaxy Watch 4, one of the first new watches to feature a revamped version of Wear OS.
The event will start today at 10:00 AM ET.
