Apple is reportedly working on a new iPad mini that is said to launch in the fall along with the rumored iPhone 13 and other devices from Cupertino.

And according to the latest rumors, the iPad mini 6 will have a mini LED display like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and a compact form factor. Furthermore, Apple's upcoming 14-inch MacBook Pro 2021 and 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 will also feature a mini LED display.

This is according to a Digitimes report that Apple suppliers will ramp up mini-LED production by the end of the September quarter. As MacRumors, which discovered the report, points out, the timing coincides with the release dates of Apple's iPad mini 6 and new MacBook Pro models.

As we reported when the 12.9-inch iPad Pro debuted, the mini LED array on the back of the LCD panel uses smaller diodes than standard LEDs. This allows manufacturers to pack in hundreds of diodes, making the screen brighter, improving contrast and making blacks darker. Mini LEDs are especially useful for high dynamic range content.

This is not the first hint that the iPad mini 6 might feature Mini-LED technology; analyst Min Chikuo, who is fairly well established when it comes to Apple rumors, has said as much about the iPad mini with Mini-LED.

The rumor always seemed unreasonable, given that the 11-inch iPad Pro, released at the same time as the 12.9-inch model, does not support this feature. But perhaps Apple is looking to increase the number of products with this technology.

Mini-LED is the only hot rumor surrounding the upcoming iPad mini, which has not seen a new version since 2019. The new tablet's screen size is expected to be larger as Apple seeks to shrink the bezels surrounding the mini's display.

A report this week suggests that the tablet will use the same A15 Bionic processor that is widely expected to be in the iPhone 13 to be released this fall, and that same report claims that the mini will add a magnetic SmartConnector and USB-C and USB-C.
