It's live streaming time for MLB All-Star Game 2021 and everyone is talking about the man appearing on both sides of the mound, Angels star Shohei Ohtani. The ace and home run king missed out on the win in last night's Home Run Derby, but regardless of that, he is the most entertaining man in MLB.
And we wouldn't be at all surprised to see the man who has turned many MLB live streams into highlight reels, playing both as a hitter and a pitcher in the Midsummer Classic. We are, however, a little shocked that this is the first time in baseball history that this has happened.
We're thinking of prop bets to take. We're not bettors ourselves, but we're not going to touch the "no runs in the first inning" bet. As tempting as it might be for Ohtani to hit a home run in his first at-bat, it is not a sure thing. Also, we would take the under over the over, but we won't bet on it tonight.
Unfortunately, several players on the roster (see below) are out due to injury or scheduling conflicts with their teams. These include Mets ace Jacob deGrom, who led the league in ERA and K:BB ratio in early July. DeGrom will be replaced by the Mets' Taijuan Walker.
According to BetMGM oddsmakers, the AL team is a close favorite at -105 and the NL at -115. In other words, to win $100 on the AL you would need to bet $105 and to win $100 on the NL you would need to bet $115. So, yes, this is effectively a toss-up.
Pete Alonso was the star of last night's Home Run Derby. However, Juan Soto set the record for the longest home run with a 520-footer.
