Apple Watch 7, or Apple's next smartwatch, will reportedly feature a faster processor, thinner bezel, and better ultra-wideband capabilities.According to Bloomberg, this year's Apple Watch refresh will focus on design and performance improvements, according to Bloomberg.
Instead, previously rumored upgrades, such as a built-in blood glucose reader and a rugged Apple Watch variant, will reportedly be reserved for future models.Bloomberg's sources say that Apple will replace last year's Apple Watch SE as well as a skin temperature sensor for 2022.
If accurate, Bloomberg's report indicates that we will see incremental upgrades to the Apple Watch this year; it seems more likely that Apple will introduce more extensive renovations and new health monitoring tools in 2022.
Faster processing will no doubt come from the S7 chipset, but we are less certain about a total redesign; Bloomberg reports that the company is testing "new lamination technology" that will bring the watch's display closer to the top cover. Bloomberg's report also states that the Apple Watch 7 could be "slightly thicker" but should not be noticeable.
Leaker Jon Prosser recently released renderings of the Apple Watch 7 with a flat-edge design and experimental color options. Prosser, who has a credible track record of rendering upcoming Apple devices, refuted Bloomberg's sources by saying that the Series 7's display "probably won't change." The leaker said the image he allegedly saw could be of the Apple Watch 8 or some other future version.
As for improved connectivity, the Apple Watch 7's will reportedly feature updated ultra-wideband technology from the Apple AirTag key finder; the Apple Watch 6 was the first smartwatch to include a U1 chip, and the company has been working on location search and other proximity tools.
At WWDC 2021 earlier this month, Apple released the watchOS 8 software update, which includes support for more digital keys, along with a new mindfulness app and messaging options. Users will be able to add their home, office, and hotel keys to Wallet and unlock them by tapping their Apple Watch.
Other than the watchOS 8 features Apple shared, we still don't know what changes Apple's new hardware will bring, as even Bloomberg's sources have stated that future Apple Watch release plans may change this year. It is possible that new health sensors and other spectacular features will be added.
