We have a treasure trove of leaked information on the Sony WF-1000XM4, promising longer battery life, IPX4 sweatproof performance, and high-res audio support via Sony's LDAC wireless technology.
Much of this information was confirmed today via an official appearance promo video, with some new details for good measure. Originally posted on YouTube, the video has been mirrored on Reddit. [2:33] The video, which breaks down a cross-section of the WF-1000XM4 buds, shows beautiful people modeling the earbuds in various urban settings, highlighting key features in captions and demonstrating them (albeit in French), exactly the kind of thing you would see at a launch event.
Still, it's not too hard to see what is being highlighted, especially with some of the features derived from yesterday's Sony WF-1000XM4 leak: up to 8 hours on a single charge with ANC (active noise cancellation) enabled, 12 hours with it turned off The maximum time is When combined with a charging case, the battery life is up to 36 hours, and the video also boasts of an hour of playback on just a five-minute charge.
However, the video also mentions other things that were not highlighted in yesterday's leak. The new drivers not only improve sound quality, but also include support for the LDAC Bluetooth codec and DSEE Extreme upscaling technology. Like Sony's WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones, the earbuds support 360 Reality Audio, which brings a 3D effect to music. Also demonstrated was a feature called Speak-to-Chat mode. This automatically mutes the audio when it realizes you are speaking, allowing you to hear what is being said to you.
Also, those who watch this video closely may spot an unexpected cameo appearance from a mysterious Sony phone. Is this the Sony Xperia 1 III?
All that was missing from the video was a price and a release date. As for the former, yesterday's leak suggested an MSRP of €279, which would be about $340, considerably higher than the WF-1000XM3's $230, even allowing for the fact that the European price likely includes sales tax.
The release date remains a mystery, but if Sony is preparing such a polished promo video, we should expect the WF-1000XM4 to be available really soon.
