AirPods Pro2 can put fitness trackers in your ears — here's how

The Apple AirPods Pro 2, rumored to be the follow-up to the noise-canceling AirPods Pro, will reportedly launch in 2022 and support dedicated fitness tracking capabilities.

According to Bloomberg, the release of the second-generation AirPods Pro will mark the "first change" to one of the best wireless earbuds since the pair of buds released in October 2019.

The upcoming AirPods 3 is rumored to borrow elements of the original AirPods Pro design, namely the shortened stem, but the new Pro version will offer certain features that differentiate it from Apple's entry-level earphones.

The AirPods Pro 2 will have updated motion sensors and a general focus on fitness tracking; the AirPods Pro offers sweat resistance, active noise cancellation, and hands-free Siri control, and is on our Best Workout Headphones list already, but the new model could raise the bar with in-ear activity tracking.

But it won't be a novel concept. There are already headphones that can read heart rate, and the Amazon Echo Buds 2 can record steps, distance, duration, calories, and pace in "Workout" mode.

The AirPods Pro 2 could have similar tools, but the metrics collected by motion sensors and other internal features would likely complement the health tracking capabilities of the Apple Watch. It is unlikely that Apple will release a product that completely replaces the industry-leading wearable.

Besides the rumored upgrades, the AirPods Pro 2 is expected to once again feature active noise cancellation and transparency modes, as well as spatial audio support. Since we have yet to hear anything about the AirPods Pro 2's battery life I would like to believe that it will not change much from 4.5 hours of playback time (24 hours total with case charging)
