PS5 restocking is still a complete disaster. And with news that Sony expects PS5 supply problems to continue through 2022, this situation is unlikely to improve much in the coming months.
Unfortunately, the limited restocking of the PS5 has been spoiled by duffers and resellers looking to make a quick buck off of gamers desperate for Sony's latest console, although GameStop and Antonline are selling fairly reasonable bundles, Sears sells bundles as high as $1,149, which is bordering on fraud.
Before we explain exactly why this bundle is a horribly bad deal, it is important to note that this package is not sold directly by Sears; as discovered by TechRadar, it is sold by a reseller named Entrotrek through Sears offered through Marketplace, but it is nevertheless shameful for a retailer to allow its platform to be used in an unscrupulous attempt to swindle hundreds of dollars out of desperate customers.
The total value of this bundle is actually only $557.96, meaning that the seller is asking for an overpayment of nearly $600. At the price of this bundle, if you bought two PS5 consoles at another retailer, you would still have enough money left over to buy a couple of the best PS5 games.
Even the items included in the bundle are questionable: the PS4 version of Madden NFL 21 is included, but at least you can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. Sure, you get a headset, controller charging dock, and thumb grip, but none of these are official Sony PS5 accessories. At this price, one would expect at least a Pulse 3D headset.
The seller also has the cheek to imply that this bundle is a bargain by claiming that the regular price of the bundle is $1,499, which is actually a $350 savings. There is nothing to gain from this rip-off package. Also, the HDMI cable and power supply are included as a bundle item, watered down by what comes standard with the console.
It's been six months since the PS5 launched, and demand still far outstrips supply, which explains why some gamers are starting to get desperate. But if you bookmark our PS5 restocking guide, we'll let you know the next time a major retailer cuts prices so you can get the console at a fair price and avoid paying a ridiculous price hike to dishonest resellers.
