One of the most perplexing problems with the Xbox Series X, the blank screen when connecting the console to certain AV receivers using HDMI 2.1, has finally been resolved.
Like the PS5, the Xbox Series X takes advantage of the high bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 to output video at 120 frames per second at 4K and 60 frames per second on 8K TVs. However, as reported by the 8K Association, some owners of AV receivers and amplifiers were unable to use their game consoles when passing the signal through the Hi-Fi setup.
Sound United, the parent company of Denon and Marantz, along with Yamaha, are two of the three companies that manufacture the affected AV receivers. By connecting the Xbox Series X to the adapter using a separate HDMI cable and connecting the adapter to the receiver, affected users can work around this issue and enjoy the best Xbox Series X games that support 4K 120fps or 8K 60fps video [Sound United's HDMI adapters are available in two sizes. If this is all news to you, you probably don't have to worry about your Xbox Series X cutting out. The problem is apparently specific to certain AV receivers/amplifiers and certain Sharp TVs in Japan; according to the 8K Association, the console may produce a "strange signal" when using the higher specs of HDMI 2.1, but simply connecting directly to the TV has no ill effects.
In other words, there is no problem when connecting the Xbox Series X to hi-fi equipment other than Denon, Marantz, or Yamaha. Except for Yamaha users, but unfortunately the company has not yet revealed how to fix the problem.
