Can't find Nvidia RTX3080? AMD's FSR technology could be the answer

If you're wondering where to buy an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or other RTX 30 series graphics card, it might be time to turn your attention to AMD's latest GPU.

According to a leak by YouTube channel Coreteks, AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), which will compete with Nvidia's impressive Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology, could be coming in June Because.

Let's step back for a moment and explain DLSS for those unfamiliar with it: first shown off in the GeForce RTX 20 series, DLSS uses AI technology to force games to render at a lower resolution and then smartly up-mix them to display at a higher resolution.

In other words, instead of natively rendering 4K images, DLSS forces them at 1080p, which can consume a lot of graphics horsepower, and uses AI to guess how they will look at 4K and fine-tune what the player sees as if it were rendered at 4K even if it is not.

In effect, this means that 4K games can be enjoyed at boosted frame rates without requiring native 4K rendering with maximum graphics on some of the most powerful gaming PCs. The second generation of Nvidia DLSS 2.1 is arguably more impressive than the ray tracing that GeForce RTX cards can offer.

AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, while capable of delivering impressive performance, do not have an answer for DLSS. AMD's FSR, however, could be the answer, especially since it reportedly requires no proprietary hardware.

Coreteks states that FSR also uses algorithm-based supersampling to smartly upscale images from low to high resolution without consuming GPU power. Apparently, the developer's time and effort required to implement FSR in a game is minimal. Furthermore, FSR apparently works on Nvidia cards, but will perform best on AMD GPUs.

If AMD does reveal FSR in full in June, it will be for the all-digital E3 2021 event.

Of course, given AMD's silence on the FSR, it is well worth being skeptical of this rumor. However, it is quite possible that Team Red is considering enhancing its graphics technology to compete with Nvidia.

Nevertheless, it is very difficult to know where to buy an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or any other AMD graphics card. Therefore, FSR may only really benefit those lucky enough to get a new Radeon RX 6000 series card; FSR may work with older AMD graphics cards, but AMD graphics cards like the Radeon RX 6800 XT Results are expected to be slower than with an AMD graphics card like the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
