Samsung's Galaxy Flip 3 is set to make its summer debut, and we finally know what the refreshed foldable will look like. No one expected Samsung to deviate from the clamshell design that sets the Galaxy Z Flip apart from the Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, there are design improvements and upgrades to the inevitable internals to look forward to.
Official images of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 leaked over the weekend show off the striking new design. The pictures are not of the best quality, so LetsGoDigital's in-house designer Giuseppe Spinelli mocked up some renders based on the leak to give us a better look.
The camera housing was initially speculated to mimic the Samsung Galaxy S21, but even the recently improved renderings missed the mark. As it turns out, the revamped Galaxy Z Flip 3 boasts the two-tone beauty familiar from the Google Pixel 2. Ice Universe, a Samsung tipster, noted that the change was to accommodate the increased external screen size, a "more practical" goal than the Pixel 2's contrasting colors.
The device will reportedly be available in a whopping eight colors, including green, black, beige, violet, white, gray, dark blue, and pink. In the leaked promo materials, four of those colors could be seen, but they are conservative colors of beige, green, and gray, with the addition of violet to keep it from being tasteless.
The renderings nicely show off the Galaxy Z Flip 3's dual cameras and 1.83-inch cover display (a step up from the Galaxy Z Flip's 1.1-inch front panel). The bolster frame we're hearing about isn't necessarily something you'll see on the device, but when it's incorporated, the foldable will be much more robust than its predecessor.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment for fans is the lack of a third camera on the front. It's not all bad news, as Samsung is sticking to the formula of the original Flip, which allows for a larger display panel. The larger display size is one of the biggest visible improvements from the first generation and will be useful for reading messages and controlling music. The Galaxy Z Flip's small display is a novelty that doesn't do much more than show notifications, so the upgrade is appreciated.
It has only been a few months since the July Unpacked event. However, Samsung is notorious for its products leaking completely before their official announcements, so expect more to come.
