The Apple Spring Loaded event is just a few hours away and is expected to announce a new iPad Pro 2021, Apple AirTags, new iMacs, and more big products.
Here's how to watch the Apple Spring Loaded event and which new Apple products you can expect to see if you watch. As with previous Apple events, the entire event can be streamed from anywhere.
Apple's Spring Event is the first major product showcase of 2021 and begins today, Tuesday, April 20, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. ET / 6 p.m. ET.
There are several ways to watch the live stream of the Apple event. Apple will be streaming the entire event on its YouTube channel. We've embedded the streaming below, so if you stay tuned to Tom's Guide, you can watch along as we live-blog the event and all the big announcements.
You can also view Spring Loaded events on Apple.com, and if you use Apple's Calendar app, you can click "Add to Calendar" to set a reminder.
Events can also be viewed from the Apple TV app, so they can be streamed on compatible devices, including the Apple TV itself.
Thanks to various leaks, we already have an idea of what Apple is likely to announce at the Spring Loaded event: currently, the iPad Pro 2021 and AirTags are most likely to appear, followed by the new iMac 2021.
Other Apple products rumored to be in the works include AirPods 3, Apple TV 2021, and possibly iPad Mini 2021 and a new iPad, but these do not seem so certain. Here is what we know so far about Apple's Spring Loaded event lineup.
The new iPad Pro 2021 seems certain and will likely feature a mini LED display. This could allow the new iPad Pro to offer deeper blacks and higher contrast, even if the rest of the design remains the same. MacOtakara previously reported that Apple will make "few changes to the chassis design" of the new iPad Pro, but even so, bezel Slimming down the bezel and other small tweaks may be seen. The design of the Magic Keyboard may also change.
Internal specs for the iPad Pro 2021 remain unclear. Some rumors suggest that it will use the yet-to-be-announced Apple A14X chip, which is apparently based on the Apple M1 chip used in laptops like the MacBook Pro with M1. claims that whatever the name of the iPad 2021's chip is, it will be as powerful as the M1 itself.
Apple's long-awaited AirTags will finally make their debut at the Spring Loaded event. For those not familiar with the longstanding rumors, AirTags are tracking tags similar to Tile Mate that use a combination of Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband technology, and Apple's "Find My" app to help track lost items.
The iOS 14.5 beta update recently added mention of tracking items such as keys and luggage. It is not yet known what the device will look like, but it will likely be small enough to be clipped to a key ring or suitcase zipper.
Following Apple's discontinuation of the iMac Pro, Apple appears to be developing a new generation of iMacs with Apple Silicon hardware. the Apple Silicon iMac has been in the rumor mill since late last year, with many suggesting an early 2021 release Many of them suggested an early 2021 release. Thus, a spring announcement would be just in time.
Given the immense success of the M1 chip in the Apple MacBook, it seems inevitable that the Apple Silicon will be included in the desktop iMac. A mini LED display could also be included, and at least one report suggests that Apple will give the iMac series its first major redesign in years by taking inspiration from the Apple Pro Display XDR.
Apple's next wireless earbuds looked like a strong candidate for an announcement at the spring event, but the AirPods 3 currently does not seem as likely to be announced as the iPad Pro 2021 or AirTags. Multiple reports indicate that the device will not be mass-produced until late 2021, making an April 20 announcement relatively premature.
Still, stranger things have happened, and we expect the AirPods 3 to be announced during the Spring Loaded event anyway. Rumors suggest that it will have improved sound quality and premium features adopted from the AirPods Pro, such as spatial audio. Leaked information, such as the photo above, also indicates a shorter stem and more sleek design than the current Apple AirPods.
Apple's Spring Loaded event could also reveal an upgraded new Apple TV box. The remote control is a very sensitive touchpad, and the skip input is particularly difficult to use; the Apple TV 2021 should definitely make fixing this a priority.
A new Apple A-series SoC powering the Apple TV 2021 is also expected; it doesn't need the horsepower of the M1, but updating the internals could make the tvOS noticeably faster and smoother to navigate.
We have not heard rumors that the iPad mini 2021 will be specifically announced at the Apple Spring Loaded event, but the timing is very appropriate as the current model is overdue for replacement and the iPad Pro 2021 will be featured
iPad mini mini
The iPad mini 6, as it will likely be called, could be another Apple product with a mini LED display; some leaks suggest an 8.4-inch display, which may be larger than previous iPad mini screens.
There are also rumors of a new entry-level iPad 2021. The rumors do not point to many new features, but could be as low as $299.
It's unlikely that all seven of these rumored devices will be revealed at once, but there are sure to be some big announcements; you already know how to watch Apple's Spring Loaded event, and we're sure you're ready to see what's in store.
