If you were expecting the iPad mini 6 to look like the iPad Pro, you may be out of luck.

Somewhat regular leaker Sonny Dixon tweeted an image of what is believed to be a dummy unit of the refreshed iPad mini and iPad Pro 2021 The Pro tablet has what looks like the rear camera module of the iPhone 12 Pro, but the smaller slate looks disappointingly familiar.

We must add the fact that we cannot confirm the contents of this leak. The iPad mini in the photo may be the 5th generation model used for reference purposes.

However, the leaker claims that this is the new iPad mini. The iPad mini's display may be slightly larger than the previous model, although given the angle of the photo, it is difficult to tell. Nevertheless, if the bezels are not smaller (which is also difficult to determine from the somewhat blurry photo), then the iPad mini 6 could be larger than the iPad mini 5.

That raises some troubling issues. If the iPad mini were not so mini, what would it be used for? Will it replace the standard iPad, which underwent minor changes last year? Will there be a significant upgrade?

We had hoped for an iPad mini that looked like a scaled-down iPad Air, with slimmer bezels and side-mounted Touch ID and power buttons. However, this does not appear to be the case in this leak.

The iPad mini's specs are another mystery, but we can make some guesses. It will likely feature Apple's latest A-series chipset, such as the A14 Bionic. There are also rumors that it will feature a mini LED display, which will be brighter and offer better contrast without having to opt for an expensive OLED display.

These upgrades would make the iPad mini worth a look. However, if the spec upgrades are not accompanied by a new design, we will be a bit disappointed.

As for the iPad Pro, the 11" and 12.9" models are quite similar to last year's Pro. A new chip (possibly derived from the Apple M1 chip), Thunderbolt USB-C support, and a possible mini LED display are expected.

The upgraded rear camera array could feature a series of 12MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide, and 12MP telephoto cameras, giving the iPad Pro tablet a boost in camera capabilities as well as improved augmented reality (AR) capabilities More than likely. However, we are not entirely convinced about the vast array of cameras on the iPad.

Recent leaks suggest that such a new iPad will debut on April 13 in the form of a simple announcement rather than a live stream event. That date seems not unreasonable since we expect an Apple announcement this month. Keep it locked on Tom's Guide for more details.
