This may be the easiest way to secure an Xbox Series X.
After winning the "Best of Tweet" title in an online contest, Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's general manager of Xbox game marketing, responded to fan demand by announcing that an Xbox Series X mini-fridge is in development. In other words, this could be cool consolation for many who have been looking for the Xbox Series X to be restocked--unless the Xbox Series X mini-fridge sells out quickly and goes straight to eBay.
The Best of Tweets is a competition by Twitter Marketing aimed at recognizing the best brand tweets of 2020. Wendy's, Doritos, Geico, Alexa, and others participated. In the end, it came down to Xbox and Skittles; with over 340,000 tweets, Team Green narrowly won with 50.5% of the vote.
When Greenberg announced that the Xbox Series X mini-fridge would see the light of day, Xbox fans were understandably ecstatic.
Since its announcement, the Xbox Series X has been affectionately referred to as a refrigerator by fans. Microsoft took advantage of this meme nature and actually created a life-size Xbox Series X refrigerator and sent it to influencers and celebrities such as iJustine, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Snoop Dogg.
This is not the first time that Microsoft has done a huge publicity campaign; for the launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft built a huge Xbox One console in Vancouver and called it the "biggest launch in Xbox history."
The actual refrigerator was worth an estimated $500. This mini-fridge will likely cost less than half that amount. Unfortunately, Greenberg did not reveal when fans might see the Xbox Series X mini-fridge on the market. However, given the ongoing shortage of game consoles, it would not be surprising to see it pushed back to the end of this year or even next year.
