An influencer who delivers DIY videos for home projects has recreated a PS5 in brass.

YouTuber Matthew Perks, who goes by the name DIY Perks, assembled a custom PS5 unit by modifying a Digital Edition console and skillfully recreated its curved surface in golden metal Perks' shiny midas touch turned the regular PS 5's livery was transformed into a shining trophy machine.

There's always the danger of flashy colors on a console like this, but Perks guides us through the process step-by-step in the video.

First, a paper template is used to match the curves of the PS5's exterior, and once the parts are cut out, Perks attaches them to brass and trims them to size.

Most fascinating is the way Parks hand-bends the brass pieces to mimic the PS5's rounded edges; the PS5's faceplate is an unusual shape, and the brass is difficult to bend, making the process more tricky. Parks persevered, however, and eventually found a solution by applying heat with a blow torch.

The entire video lays bare Parks' elaborate craftsmanship, and it is certainly not an entry-level project. The final touches are the USB port and the custom-made brass power button.

PS5 customization has been big business since Sony's next-generation console launched last year. This has manifested itself not only in the form of a huge desire for black PS5 consoles through custom skin makers like dbrand, but also in the various mods we've seen.

Of course, if you're willing to try your hand at sleight of hand, perhaps the most difficult task will be to actually get your hands on a console, along with the many people still asking where to buy a PS5 after this year's duff scourge that watered down Sony's console release.

If you do end up getting a PS5, it would be best to stick with the more user-friendly dbrand Darkplates instead of Perks' brass glow-ups.

More PS5 may finally support classic PlayStation games.
