Spoiler alert: casting news for "Thor: Thunder of Love and Sorrow" has leaked. This article delves into the names to expect in the upcoming film.
We knew that Marvel's "Thor: Love & Thunder" was about to flip the script on who would wield Mjolnir, but we had no idea how strange its casting had become. At least, I didn't know until some leaked information gave us some new names.
Let's start with the not-so-surprising news that Matt Damon is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the Daily Mail, Damon showed up on set in the same costume he wore in "Thor: Ragnarok."
Oh, did I forget to mention that Damon had already appeared in the MCU? To jog your memory, here's a clip from Thor/Ragnarok. Jason Bourne himself is dressed as Loki and plays a scene from the play (Luke Hemsworth plays Thor).
Another celebrity making a cameo appearance--which might fit Matt Damon's role above--is Melissa McCarthy, with husband Ben Falcone. McCarthy appears to be playing Thor's sister Hera, which could mean that she is playing the role that Cate Blanchett played in Ragnarok.
McCarthy and Falcone publicly announced their "audition" for a role in "Thor: Love and Thunder" on Instagram, where they read a monologue to prove they were true theater people. Given the specifics of that submission, one would have expected this to happen.
"Thor: Love and Thunder" is scheduled for release on February 11, 2022. In it, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will be the new Thor.
