PS5 loses a major exclusive title from its 2021 lineup. Gran Turismo 7 will not be released this year due to development delays caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Gran Turismo 7 will be released in 2022.
A Sony representative said in a statement, "GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and will therefore be shifted from 2021 to 2022. The situation is dynamic as the pandemic progresses and some key aspects of game production have slowed over the past few months, and we will provide more details on the GT7 release date as they become available."
This statement was made by GQ when interviewing PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, journalist Robert Leedham asked about the highly anticipated sim racer from Polyphony Digital. At that point, a Sony spokesperson interrupted and said they would make a statement regarding GT7.
Ryan also told both GQ and the Washington Post that a new PSVR headset is currently in development following the delay. The headset will include a new controller with an improved field of view, higher resolution, and integrated PS5 DualSense features. Also, like Gran Turismo SPORT on PS4, the upcoming GT7 will likely be compatible with PSVR 2.
The last numbered Gran Turismo game was released on PlayStation 3 in 2013. The competition-focused "Gran Turismo SPORT" was then released on PS4 in 2017. A new Forza Motorsport game is also in development for the Xbox Series X, although no release date has been set.
