Samsung Galaxy S21 owners Should Update Now — here's why

Samsung has released a patch to fix a battery drain issue affecting some Samsung Galaxy S21 handsets with Exynos 2100 chips.

Some Galaxy S21 users, believed to have been introduced in a recent security update, have reported unusually fast battery drain on their phones. However, according to users on the XDA Developers forum, a new firmware update (version G99xBXXU1AUB6) fixed the problem.

The battery issue appears to affect only Galaxy S21 devices with the Exynos 2100 chipset. This means that most US users with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 chipset were not affected.

A firmware update to fix this issue has already been distributed, but some users on the XDA Developers forum have stated that the battery issue on S21 devices has not been fixed. In other words, it appears that further fixes are needed.

In any case, those with Exynos-powered Galaxy S21s are advised to update their phones as soon as possible to see if the fix works.

To check if the update has arrived, head to the Settings menu and find the "Software Update" section. Then tap "Download and Install" and see if anything new shows up as being available.

The update you are looking for is G99xBXXU1AUB6, and if it is not there, then the update has most likely not reached your S21 yet and you will have to be patient.

If you are not experiencing battery life issues, consider yourself lucky. But the best course of action with Samsung and Android phones, in general, is to make sure you have the latest updates. These tend to help squash bugs of all kinds, enhance security, and improve your overall smartphone experience.
