But the good news is that Iman Verani seems to be the next big star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. [She is a brilliant student and an avid gamer who writes fan fiction about her adored Captain Marvel. Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school. Then she gains new powers similar to those of her heroes. Not a spoiler: probably not. It is worth noting, however, that the way she gets her powers (and what they are) is reportedly different from the original story.
Kamala first appeared in the comics in 2014, taking the name first given to Carol Danvers (before she became Captain Marvel.) The two characters are linked throughout the comics, and it is not surprising that Kamala will play a major role in Captain Marvel 2: Marvel's not surprising.

Marvel and Disney Plus have announced that Ms. Marvel will be released on June 8 at 3:00 am ET/12:00 am ET/8:00 am ET. This is the first of six episodes. Subsequent episodes will be available on Wednesdays.
Ms. Marvel is the latest Disney Plus Marvel series original, following Moon Knight.
More Marvel series will follow, including She-Hulk (coming August 17).

The first complete trailer for Ms. Marvel shows Kamala discovering her powers at school. Of course, the series deviates from the comics and seems to avoid any mention of the Mists of Terrigen or the Inhumans.
A short teaser for Disney Plus Day showed that Kamala Khan did not expect to get super powers and got them anyway. She appears to be walking through the air in a makeshift Captain Marvel costume, but we don't know what her stretchy powers look like. The clip can be seen on Disney Plus (opens in a new tab).
At Disney Investor Day in December, Marvel will introduce Ms. It introduces Kamala as "a new kind of superhero," but "at its core, her story is very universal."
Marvel boss Kevin Feige notes that she is a new character in the comics. The rest of the teaser highlights the directorial lineup: Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and the sizzle reel shows the first footage of Verani in the role.
