Indiana Jones' animated TV show could come to Disney Plus

Indiana Jones' adventures on the big screen may be coming to an end with the release of "Indiana Jones 5," but that doesn't mean the franchise is gone forever. In fact, according to one rumor, the adventures of everyone's favorite fictional archaeologist could continue in the form of an animated TV series on Disney Plus.

Giant Freakin Robot (opens in new tab) claims that Lucasfilm is working on an Indiana Jones animated TV series for Disney's streaming service. It would no doubt be a novel way to continue Indiana's adventures now that Harrison Ford is, arguably, too old to continue his treasure hunts on the big screen.

The only question is what an Indiana Jones TV series might look like. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles has already taught us that there are parts of Indy's life worth exploring, and animation may not have the same constraints as live action.

Special effects, stunts, or the fact that Harrison Ford is now in his 80s won't be as much of a problem. There is only so much de-aging a VFX team can handle, especially on a TV budget. Likewise, if Ford wants to end this franchise for good, there is no shortage of talented voice actors to take his place. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Disney (and Lucasfilm) are considering the next film. [It's an interesting idea, to say the least, and it makes sense that Disney would want to tap into some of the larger franchises they own, with Giant Freakin Robot only saying that it's from "trusted and proven sources" about this rumored series, No further details have been revealed. Thus, all we can do is speculate on what this rumored TV show will be about.

It is always better to be skeptical of Internet rumors. Don't be surprised if this doesn't happen, or if Disney puts this on the back burner for the time being. If these plans are indeed underway, they may depend on the success of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Doom," which is scheduled for release on June 30.

It will be interesting to see what happens to these rumors in the future. We'll keep our ears open for additional news as it comes in.
