The 2023 WBD Upfronts took place today (May 17) and featured a great showcase of WBD content. However, while attending the event, I noticed that news also broke that five TV shows would be coming to the WBD-owned channel and Max streaming service.

Events like this may primarily speak to why advertisers should buy ad time from WBD, but they also need to make some news about what is coming in the near future. That news ranges from the premiere dates of some big Max shows, to a new show starring a beloved talk show host, to the return of a classic reality TV series.

So for all those not in ad sales, here are the big takeaways from the 2023 WBD Upfronts:

The upcoming Max original show "Downey's Dream Cars," an unscripted auto repair show, is an MTV classic "Pimp My Ride" and feels like a different, and perhaps better, show. And not just because it features some of our favorite actors. [Now that Tony Stark is no longer in the MCU, notorious auto enthusiast Robert Downey Jr. is trying to give his beloved classic cars a modern twist. while transforming it into a lean, green (environmentally friendly) machine. In this way, he can satisfy his love for cars and his indifference to fossil fuels at the same time!

Debuting on Max on June 22

And just like that, we now know when the second season of the "Sex and the City" sequel series will air on Max. A few weeks after releasing the above teaser (which was rerun on Upfront), Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, revealed that AJLT S2 will also be available on Thursday, June 22.

Two episodes will be available in its debut, with nine more episodes to be released weekly the following Thursday. In case you haven't been keeping up with the casting news, the big surprise in the new season is that Carrie's ex-boyfriend Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) will be back.

Conan O'Brien's days as a talk show host may be on ice for now, but Max wants more of the late night legend. His new travel series, Conan O'Brien Must Go, is a series of trips around the world to meet people he met through his podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan.

The series feels like a series of pre-recorded town halls from O'Brien's old NBC appearances, but it is high-budget and out of his comfort zone.

If you like Amazon Prime Video/Freevee's "Jury Duty," you now have one reason to be sure to watch TBS. Cat Deeley hosts a revival of "The Joe Schmoe Show," but only one of the cast members doesn't realize she's not on a reality show.

The shaggy-haired guy, Ben, thinks he's on a competitive series, but everyone else there is actually an actor. And they are all in on it. To quote Jason Sarlanis, president of crime and investigative content at Warner Bros. Discovery, "Rebooting this classic for today's savvy viewers gives us the opportunity to comment on the often absurd and hilarious clichés of reality television in a way viewers will appreciate. It gives us the opportunity to comment on them."

Finally, and this is definitely the show I'm most excited about: the 90s are back as the Turner network adds a fourth wrestling show. AEW Saturday Collision is a great example of how the promotion's ever-expanding roster requires more air time more piledrivers and pandemonium each week as the promotion's expanding roster needs more airtime.

The announcement mentions names of current and former champions, including Thunder Rosa, Milo, Samoa Joe, and Powerhouse Hobbs, but the big story at Collision is one name not shown: CM Punk. Rumor has it that Punk, a former AEW and WWE champion and one of the biggest names in the business, will essentially be exclusive to Collision due to the difference between him and the talent who will spend most of his time on TBS' AEW Dynamite.
