We at Tom's Guide love YouTube TV, but even one of the best alternatives to cable TV has a frustrating bug. Its latest frustration also ruins the DVR concept.

The error, reported by Redditor seanodotcom, breaks the ability to fast forward and rewind past ads in programs recorded on YouTube TV. This user's problem may sound like the above, but it is actually worse than that." I tried to rewind & queue the Phillies' leadoff Schwarbombs this evening (after a few episodes had passed), but the Safelite + Great Wolf Lodge ads permanently overwrote them and I couldn't even watch them." He writes.

Seanodotcom attempted to break through this digital barrier several times." Three or four times, at slightly different markers, and each time, one of the above 'ad info' personalized ads, beyond the first minute of the match ... It was claimed to play."

In this same Reddit post, five other users claimed to have experienced the same bug; one wrote that he was using an Apple TV 4K, while the others did not specify their hardware.

You might wonder what the point is if the DVR replaces some of the recordings with ads. Well, the good news (at least for those whose recordings aren't being devoured) is that the YouTube TV team is working on it: the official TeamYouTube account replied, "Thank you for your suggestion. We have already shared your report of unskippable ads on recorded programs with our engineering team and they are looking into the issue. We will get back to you when we have an update!"

They replied.

In a follow-up reply, which basically felt like part of the customer service call we were witnessing, TeamYouTube asked for more details. Specifically, they needed the broadcast date and a screenshot of the Stats for Nerds window. The representative said, "We will definitely give them to you to help with your investigation."

While we hate to see bugs like this, they are not as uncommon as we would like. I noticed it last week on a Hulu + Live TV recording.

So while we hope no one reports such bugs, we have to give a little praise to YouTube TV. This live TV service uses its Reddit page as a great place to engage the public on topics like this.
