Season 4 of Prime Video's "The Boys" would be a quick watch, but it will have to wait until the National Writers Guild strike is over. So for now, we can only hope that there are fans of the show on both sides of the picket line.
Showrunner Eric Kripke, who adapted Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's grim and bloody comic about the dark side of superheroes, broke the news on Twitter. Yesterday (June 28), Kripki wrote, "#TheBoys update!!!1) When #Season4 will be delivered depends on how long the #WGA strike lasts. No answer yet. Tell the studios to give us a fair deal!" The post also included a teaser for fans.
Filming for Season 4 of "The Boys" has already wrapped, which may be confusing. To that end, Kripki shared an explanation: "Quite often, actors come back to record (called ADR) dialogue they wrote post-recording to fill in story gaps or clarify plot points. We may also edit the dialogue together in a variety of ways to "rewrite" the dialogue. We write at every stage of the process."
He ended his tweet with the hashtag #WGAStrong to show his support and solidarity with the writers strike.
If you're not excited for Season 4 of The Boys, you should be. Simon Pegg, who plays Huey's father, told Collider, "You know how crazy 'The Boys' is? It gets crazier. That show was a lot of fun. I love Jack (Quaid). It was great to work with Rosemarie DeWitt again, who plays Hugh's mother. It's going to be great. You're going to love it."
As for what to expect? It looks like Homelander's trial for the murder of a protester in Season 3 is imminent, and Soldier Boy may be back.
"The Boys" is just one of many shows that have been postponed due to the writers' strike, showing how important the writers are to the creative process. For example, production of "Stranger Things" Season 5 was halted because the Duffers stood by their striking writers.
"Andor" Season 2 also lost its showrunner in its final act. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Tony Gilroy was criticized for writing the script and suspended from all duties.
However, Variety reports that several shows are continuing, including "House of the Dragon" Season 2, and, also according to Variety, "The Rings of Power" Season 2 is continuing.
