The immortal "Insidious" series finally returns to its roots after the last film. The fifth film in the franchise, "Insidious: Red Door," is a sequel to 2013's "Insidious Chapter 2" and takes place 10 years after the events of the previous film. Both Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne return to the franchise, and Lynn Shaye, a familiar face from the "Insidious" films, reprises her role as paranormal expert and psychic Elise Rainier. Frankly, there is no need to be shocked if the sixth "Insidious" film has an ambiguous ending that seems almost inevitably prepared for.

Tom Cruise is arguably the last great star left in Hollywood, and the "Mission: Mission: Impossible" franchise is truly rare in that it actually gets better with each new installment. 2018's "Mission. : Mission: Impossible / Fallout" is hard to top, but it's hard to go against Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. In a predictable twist for the long-lived series, the plot of "Deadly Hallows" follows super spy Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team as they attempt to track down a deadly weapon that could threaten all mankind before it falls into the wrong hands. The beginning of this globe-trotting adventure is filled with espionage and breathtaking stunt work by Cruise himself. As its name suggests, this is the first chapter of a two-part film, and a cliffhanger ending seems almost certain.

The best movie to watch in July is not only in theaters, "Bird Box Barcelona" comes to Netflix on July 14, the Spanish-language version of 2018's blockbuster Netflix film "Bird Box." The spin-off/sequel horror thriller follows a father's desperate attempts to keep his daughter safe in a world invaded by a being that drives those who look directly at it to suicide. The original "Bird Box" was a huge hit for Netflix, and this sequel to that film looks to be just as thrill-packed as its predecessor. When it hits the streaming service in a couple of weeks, it will be a dream come true to make Netflix's best movies list.

"Barbie" is probably the most anticipated film on this list, with social media already excited about the upcoming release of the Greta Gerwig-directed comedy. Margot Robbie plays the eponymous doll and Ryan Gosling plays Ken in the film, in which Barbie ventures out of her plastic playland into the real world in search of true happiness. Expect original musical numbers (plus Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj's remix of Aqua's classic "Barbie World"), a pink tint to everything, and a wink at the ridiculousness of the entire premise. With so much buzz surrounding the film, don't be surprised if "Barbie" dominates the summer movie buzz.
In theaters July 21
Opening on the same day as "Barbie" is a completely different type of film from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer" is a biographical thriller about J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was instrumental in the development of the first nuclear weapons. This three-hour epic explores the Manhattan Project, its impact on Oppenheimer, and his legacy as the "father of the atomic bomb." As usual, Nolan has assembled an all-star cast, including Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, along with Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.
In theaters July 21
Distributed by cult entertainment company A24, "Talk to Me" looks like a new horror film winner from the distributor that brought us "Hereditary," "The Witch" and "The Pearl." The Australian-produced film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January to rave reviews (it currently has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes). The film tells the story of a group of friends who use embalmed hands to conjure spirits, accidentally unleashing sinister supernatural forces. The film has earned praise for its "gripping story" and use of practical effects, which, as the trailer suggests, are quite creepy. The film finally opens in the U.S. on July 28, and we can't wait to have nightmares for weeks afterward.

Disney's first Haunted Mansion movie was released in 2003 and is a nostalgic favorite for many (including you). Now, the House of Mouse is taking another shot at a feature film adaptation of the theme park's iconic attraction of the same name. A single mother (Rosario Dawson) and her son move into a huge mansion that is infested with eerie spirits. To exterminate this paranormal pest, they hire a paranormal investigator, a priest, a psychic, and even a history professor played by Danny DeVito. This family-friendly horror-comedy should be an ideal crowd-pleaser to close out the month of July.
