In this week's new online movie releases, popular actors from Succession are starring in Netflix's horror films. But the most exciting film in this group of films is Anna Kendrick's acclaimed portrayal of a woman with a strong desire to break up.

Netflix's biggest movie of the week is an animated adaptation by a big name that promises transformative action and adventure. Meanwhile, "Max" delivers a timely documentary about the Hollywood icon whose tragic death forever changed public perception of AIDS.

We need more. Paramount Plus on Showtime, one of the best streaming services, offers one of the best recent movies you may have missed.

Sarah Snook of Succession, in her first high-profile role after playing Shiv Roy, is a horror project in which she plays a fertility doctor (named Sarah) whose daughter Mia (Lily Latorre) has started exhibiting worrisome behavior. Then everything gets complicated when the conversation turns to Sarah's troubled sister Alice, who was obsessed with rabbits.

Then Mia impersonates Alice, dons a rabbit mask, and causes her mother all sorts of anxiety.Reviews of Run Rabbit Run have been mixed, but critics have given high marks for the cinematography and Snook's performance.

Alice (Anna Kendrick) really needs a vacation, and her psychologically manipulative boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick) is the reason. And while she can breathe a sigh of relief when she and her friends (Kanyehitio Horn and Wunmi Mosaku) leave town, everything starts to fall apart when Simon shows up.

Not only do Alice's friends witness his gaslighting, but Simon tightens up even more, driving Alice to anxiety. Critics praised this psycho thriller for Kendrick's powerful performance and Alanna Francis' screenplay for how delicately Simon's actions are portrayed early on.

The HBO documentary team continues to celebrate Pride Month by exploring the life of Rock Hudson The star of the 1950s and 1960s was gay, but also one of the most popular of his era star of his era.

The documentary illustrates how Hudson's public persona as a woman was a carefully crafted story by a studio that wanted to protect its investment in the star. It includes interviews with those who knew Hudson best.

And it delves into how the lies about Hudson's life crumbled when his AIDS diagnosis and subsequent death exposed the truth about him and changed the public's perception of AIDS.

Airing Wednesday, June 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and Max

In the gorgeous animated film "Nimona," similar to the Spider-Verse, Chloe Grace Moretz plays the titular shapeshifter. And fortunately for Nimona, the knight who was once ordered to take her out now needs her help.

The barrister (Riz Ahmed) may have sworn to take Nimona out, but that was before he was passed off as a villain and framed for regency murder. Nimona is an adaptation of a webcomic and graphic novel, itself inspired by Moretz's performance in the 2010 film Kick-Ass.

Vivienne (Jane Fonda) is ready for the next big chapter in her life, but her book club friends (Diane Keaton, Mary Steenbergen, Candice Bergen) with without whom the pages would never be turned. And so the quartet made it through a pandemic-worthy zoom call for their club, and they decide to go to Italy together for Vivian's bachelorette party.

To give Book Club a modern context, think of it as a slightly classier version of 80 For Brady. However, there are hijinks, including a cop who wrongly suspects one of the Book Club members is a stripper.

"After Sun" is one of last year's best films, but probably didn't make it to your radar. Charlotte Wells' directorial debut, "After Sun," is a low-key plot about a pre-teen Sophie (Frankie Corio) and her single father (Paul Mescall) vacationing in Turkey. [At the same time, "After Sun" follows Sophie (Celia Rolson-Hall), now 20 years old, as she processes the trip and her father's memories through footage recorded on a video camera. Critics threw flowers at the feet of Welles, Mescal, and Corio for making "After Sun" such a sensitive and powerful film.

Airing Saturday, July 1 on Paramount Plus and Showtime

A new harvest of children of the corn begins. Fortunately, not all of the youngsters are haunted, as classmate Boleyn (Elena Kampouris) defiantly stands up to peer pressure.

And unlike most "Children of the Corn" films, Kurt Wimmer's version is actually well shot and visually strong.

It will be available on Friday (June 30) on Shudder (via the Amazon Prime channel) and AMC Plus
