YouTube TV just lost another sports Channel — What You Need to Know

YouTube TV has filed strike 3 against one of the last regional sports networks (RSNs).

On Thursday (June 22), New York sports channel SNY announced that its contract with YouTube TV is expiring. In a brief announcement, SNY said, "Despite our good faith efforts, YouTube TV is preparing to cancel live coverage of SNY and our exclusive Mets games."

This move will affect New York/New Jersey-based sports fans." We feel obligated to inform YouTube TV subscribers that they will lose SNY's primary coverage of the Mets, Jets, and all of New York's professional and college sports teams."

The announcement continued.

The news is familiar to YouTube TV subscribers, who lost MLB Network earlier this year and Fox-owned RSN in 2020. Regional sports networks are on the decline, and Diamond Sports (which operates 19 Bally Sports RSNs) recently filed for bankruptcy.

SNY also took a moment to remind people that the other three best cable TV alternatives available are: Fubo, DirecTV Stream, and Hulu + Live TV.

In terms of price and value, which are key drivers for cord cutters, Hulu + Live TV is our top pick. I'm also a Hulu + Live TV subscriber and just checked it out.

Fubo and DirecTV Stream, frustratingly, charge extra for regional sports networks; Fubo adds a $13.99 regional sports fee for those in the area. International sports fans have the most significant reason to check out Fubo.

DirecTV Stream locks RSN into its $100/month Choice plan, but this package is more complete. Not only is there RSN for a wide range of teams, but there are channels on both TBS and TNT that MLB and NBA sports fans want for the playoffs.
